bits and pieces

Here are a few little diddies i've done in the past few days. enjoy.

first up is an iron giant tribute. I saw MI:4 last night and enjoyed the storytelling very much, even if the plot was a little... lacking and "codes" heavy. Simon Peg's fantastic as usual and IMAX is the way to see it if you can. Here's my tribute to Mr. Bird's first Feature Film, the animated Classic The Iron Giant. If' you've never seen this flick, then do yourself a favor and rent it! you will not be disappointed.

Next is a little fun piece i did of charles Xavier a few weeks back, this is bonus art for a friend's gift. Whenever i'm really late on sending off a gift to a friend, I always like to make up for the delay with a free piece of bonus art. usually something weird, or humorous. this is both weird in technique and in tone. Old Chuck's got a way with the ladies alright!

Finally i have a fun little guy i did real quick tonight for a friend. She doesn't know she's getting this piece yet, I texted her to send me a text with an Animal and a Profession. She replied: "Giraffe Mechanic" And well this is what she got.

So this is a work in progress. i started this a long long time ago. i went through a jesus phase, kinda like when teenage girls get into black and white photography and start taking pictures of streetlamps, and their feet...i turned to the lord for inspiration.

this was a super jesus. fresh from the cross, and superpowered by the lord. energy blasts that burn off his skin. this is how judgement day'll look. empowered. bad ass. and firing lazers from his stigmata.

i might make this into a painting. havent decided yet. do a full on michelangelo rennaisance painting of superjesus coming back at rapture like a giant anime robot.

below is another quick marker sketch i did of Him, with a halo that looks like 50's hairdryer, and the coke can is kind of a pop-art reff. or i only had black red and yellow markers that day. either way i like it. this was always going to be a painting. still will be. as soon as i get some space/canvas/paints and time. soon butterflies. soon.

Finally, here's a little bit of Chris Ouellette Nostalgia. if you ever visited my bedroom growing up, you would've seen this little X-men/Early 90's cliche/blatant rip-off, proudly displayed behind my bedroom door. the name of the group was Z-Tron. i know... so bad, but i still like this one though. Don't be surprised if this gang shows up in something soon!

Not bad for an 11 year old. i always used to draw guys with snake legs, cus i didn't like drawing feet. this poster is on my wall now, reminds me of my humble beginnings.

back with some new jazz...

I took some time away. got my scanner and photoshop all up and running. ready to share again. i've also been consuming a lot of art. filling the well if you will.

this is a piece i'd been tinkering with for a while now. finally finished it on my sabbatical. the brushstroke look was created using a Pigma Micron brush pen. the color is just marker both prismacolor and good olde crayola washables. the detail is a mix of a couple different finer pointed pens. mostly Microns 01, 03 and .005

Now, the Inspiration for this piece is in the borders. This is a tribute to one of my favorite jazz musicians and top top all around artists of all time. Don Ellis (died in 1978 at age 44) was a trumpet genius who broke open Hard Bop jazz, and even brought his absurd time signatures and zongo-orchestra machinations to the masses with his soundtrack to The French Connection. But i love him for his big band.

Electric Bath is a gem, and specifically the song i featured: Indian Lady is a mad cap romp through time and space, color and sound. find it free online or buy it on itunes. it'll be worth it. if you're a writer, artist, dancer or director; this track will be the soundtrack to your next few days. its a muse. don't believe me? just look at what i drew out of it.

Also he played a 4 valve trumpet, which allowed him to flow easier through quarter tones. it sounds like meteor-butter ripping through the upper atmosphere.
